Loni Mills

Resume

Loni Mills BVA in Fine Art (1997)

Loni has been drawing people since she was in primary school. Her first real lesson came from her mother who had started an art degree in the 60s. She carried on making art through school. Painting props, backdrops and portraits for school musicals. The first life drawing class was at age 15 which was a revelation. Those first drawings have been kept so that her progress could be tracked by her.

Even when training for her day job as an operating theatre nurse she kept sketching. Quite a lot of doctors own a yellowing pen drawing of themselves by Loni, on a paper hand towel.

In 1994 she returned to Brisbane from Sydney and joined a life drawing group and hasn’t really stopped going to classes ever since. A Bachelor of Visual Art in Fine Arts was completed in 1997. Exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions since 1995. Loni has run tutored classes and workshops in Brisbane.

A four month trip to Paris in 2009 saw her drawing everyday, in classes, on the metro, in cafes and restaurants, at book readings at Shakespeare and co. It was a trip taken to recover from her mother’s death and it both healed her and reinfected her with the enthusiasm to draw the world around her. She thinks she is quite contagious so come along and get excited to draw and make art with Loni.
